Wishing someone good luck improves performance

It’s baseball season, and chances are you will see a story or two about what baseball players do to bring them good luck.  Some players players won’t step on the foul line when taking the field, for example.  Baseball is full of superstitions.

But did you know that good luck charms and superstitions actually improve performance?  Not only that, but merely wishing someone good luck can improve their performance, according to a news release from the Association for Psychological Science entitled “Keep your fingers crossed!: How superstition improves performance.”
